WELCOME - Héritiers de la Justice

3rd anniversary of the assassination of Pascal Kabungulu Kibembi, former Executive Secretary of  Héritiers de la Justice

A call to resume the prosecution and establish memory site

Héritiers de la Justice (HJ), together with human rights organisations grouped  under the umbrella organisation called RADHOSKI, celebrated on 31st july 2008 the 3rd anniversary of the assassination of Mr Pascal Kabungulu, its former Executive Secretary.  During the ceremonies different speeches were given and a visit to the requested memory site of Pascal Kabungulu was organised. Most speeches concerned Pascal Kabungulu ‘s life, his works, his relationships and requests to resume the prosecution started by the end of 2005 so that the perpetrators can be punished in accordance with law.

One could read on the T-Shirts put on by participants « duty to Pascal Kabungulu memory, 31/07/2005-31/07/2008 ». Participants marched first from the office of HJ to the place where Pascal Kabungulu was assassinated. Then the procession continued to the Brasserie grave yard where he was buried.  From there, participants continued their way to the Governor’s office in an attempt to meet with him. Unfortunately neither the Governor nor the deputy Governor was willing to receive them.

Heritiers de la Justice has been actively working against impunity in the Democratic Republic of Congo in particular and the Great Lake region in general. Therefore, HJ call upon both local and international organisations to hold pressure on the Congolese government to resume the prosecution in the case of the death pf Pascal Kabungulu. It is not accepted that people who were arrested in connexion with this case be held unjustly in prison for more than 2 years without being convicted of any crime.

Heriritiers de la justice reminds that some of the suspects in this crime still occupy higher positions in national institutions. Only a fair ending of the prosecution the conviction of those who plotted the killing can guarantee the changes in the Congolese judiciary system that everybody wishes to see.
